Serving Jackson County Last revised: July 27, 2010 LAST CHANCE FOR SCOUT-O-RAMA! Big Pines District has not had a Scout-O-Rama in YEARS! And this being the 100th anniversary, there is no better time to get that important tradition going again! We have set the date for Saturday, September 18, from 9:00-3:00 at the Jackson County Expo. Now we are meeting with all the Packs and Troops to help everyone come up with a fun activity to sponsor. We would like every pack and troop to have an activity or booth of some kind! Your Scouts will love seeing what the older Scouts are doing, or just taking in the activites of other units from our District, along with the public. The Leader Guide has hundreds of ideas for booths/activites, and they can even have fun working as a team to put together your pack or troops' plan! Contact Dave DeCarlow at DLDeCarlow@aol.com to reserve your activity,or to make arrangements for a Scout-O-Rama representative to visit your unit's meeting. 2010 FRIENDS OF SCOUTING HONOR ROLE As we do each year during this anniversary month, various Friends of Scouting campaigns are kicking off with the Packs and Troops, in the LDS church, and in the community. Scouting is an organization that is closely knit together all the way from the National Headquarters to the weekly dens and patrols, and together we endeavor to impact the lives and character of so many youth, one at a time. When you are asked to give, please consider the value of what our Scouts are getting, and know that every pledge and donation is going toward a great cause...the future of our families, and our nation!

100 YEARS TO CELEBRATE 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of the greatest youth movement in history, and we have a lot to celebrate! There are many new things going on in conjunction with that anniversary, like the new Boy Scout and Leader uniform, but also some great resources online. Be sure to check out the 100th Anniversary link on www.scouting.org . It is filled with information about our rich history, and some exciting things that are coming in the next phase of Scouting. You will get a chance to meet our new Chief Scout Executive, and hear from him what his vision is for our future!
Also, there's a new resource for volunteers, www.scoutingparents.org . This is a website for Scout parents that has resources, and a blog for sharing ideas, concerns, questions, suggestions...you name it!
The last 100 years has been an incredible tradition of honor and character for the Boy Scouts of America, and that is not going to change. The Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan are the backbone of our great organization. But this period also brought us some incredible technological changes, the likes of which have never before been seen in so short a time. Watch for more innovation in the years to come as the Boy Scouts continues to make a difference to our society in even bigger and better ways! The future is now! |
